Student Art Exhibition Features Yavapai College’s Finest

Clever, captivating, and sometimes whimsical, Yavapai College opens April with an art exhibit that captures the breadth of its remarkable talent base in watercolors, oils, sculpture, and multi-media.

The YC Prescott Gallery invites one and all to its Spring 2024 Juried Student Exhibition, Friday, April 5 through Saturday, June 1, on Yavapai College’s Prescott Campus.

This year’s student exhibition promises a wide variety of genres, styles, and perspectives

Artists submitted more than 160 works for consideration. These were honed into a powerful presentation of sixty pieces, juried by Arizona-based contemporary artist Tina Mion.

“Originality was the main criteria I was looking for.” Mion said. “I chose works that I thought would complement and start a visual dialogue with each other. Two main themes stood out to me: nature as a muse and a sense of playfulness. There were many talented artists to choose from, working in a wide array of disciplines.”

Tina Mion is an artist whose oil and pastel works have been featured multiple times at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. “Virtual Election,” her interactive exhibition, opened at Santa Monica’s Sherry Frumkin Gallery and toured museums across the country.

She has shown in museums nationally and around the world

Her painting of Jacqueline Kennedy was purchased by the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery and her works are part of many permanent collections, including the Albrecht-Kemper Museum in Missouri, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City.

She lives and works in Sedona and in Winslow, where she and her husband purchased and restored the historic La Posada Hotel. “It was great to see the arts are so alive in Prescott,” she says, “and I look forward to seeing the works in person.”

Tina Mion will be on hand to present artists awards at the Juried Student Exhibition’s public reception, held Friday, April 26, from 5 to 7 p.m

The reception will be held during Prescott’s 4th Friday Artwalk. Awards will be presented at 6 p.m., and the entire event is free and open to the public.
