Man who helped facilitate UK-wide art investment fraud walks free from Newry Court – Armagh I

November 17, 20231 Min Read

A man who helped facilitate a UK-wide art investment fraud has been spared jail at Newry Crown Court.

David Wilson was sentenced yesterday (Thursday) to an Enhanced Combination Order which includes a two-year probation order and 80 hours of community service.

The 62-year-old had pled guilty at an earlier court hearing to five offences relating to possession of criminal property, being concerned in the arrangement of bank accounts and providing banking information which facilitated a UK-wide art investment fraud between January 2020 and August 2021.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Economic Crime Unit have today acknowledged Wilson’s sentencing.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Wilson said: “This sentencing follows a thorough police investigation and shows that we are committed to targeting criminal activity involving money laundering and the movement of cash linked to serious fraud.

“I would strongly encourage anyone with information about criminal activity to contact police on 101 or to submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form.
