GTA VI might introduce cryptocurrency as new mode of payment for in-game missions, all we know

July 5, 20243 Mins Read

It has been over a decade that GTA fans have been waiting for the next game in the series, GTA VI. The game is one of the most-awaited titles of 2025 and ever since it was announced that it will launch in Fall next year, gamers across the globe have been excited to find out more. There are a lot of speculations and rumours about the upcoming game on social media. While some rumours are backed by facts and evidence, others seem to be created out of thin air. One rumour that has been doing rounds online is that players in GTA VI might get paid in cryptocurrency for in-game missions. Yes, you read that right.

According to a report by Watcher Guru, GTA VI players might receive cryptocurrency as in-game payment for completing missions in the highly anticipated Rockstar Games title. This concept is intriguing but lacks confirmation from reliable sources. Rockstar Games has not officially announced any plans to incorporate cryptocurrency in GTA 6. Therefore, it’s essential to treat these rumours with a pinch of salt and await official statements from the developers.

As far as the rumour is concerned, the report suggests that billionaire gangsters in the game might assign missions and reward players with cryptocurrency, potentially named $RSTAR, an acronym for Rockstar Games. However, the report does not provide concrete evidence to support this claim, leaving its authenticity in question.

On the other hand, considering Rockstar’s history of parodying real-world trends and events in the Grand Theft Auto series, the inclusion of cryptocurrency as a form of in-game payment isn’t entirely far-fetched. Cryptocurrency has been a hot topic in recent years, making it a likely candidate for Rockstar’s satirical treatment. This feature could serve as a gimmick within the game, reflecting the company’s penchant for integrating contemporary themes into their titles. For instance, from the first trailer of the game we know that social media will be a big part of GTA VI. The trailer showed various characters in a TikTok-like app, taking the internet by storm. Thus, if elements like social media apps are being inserted in the game, rumours of cryptocurrency being used sound quite possible.

Despite the speculation, there’s no way to verify the validity of these rumours at this point. Neither Rockstar Games nor its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, have confirmed any plans to integrate cryptocurrency in GTA 6. Therefore, fans will need to wait for official announcements to see if this feature will be included.

On a related note, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick shed some light on a PC release for GTA VI in an interview with Video Games Chronicle recently. His comments were somewhat ambiguous, leaving room for various interpretations. “Well, the lack of news is not something set in stone, from what I’ve seen, because the only thing that happens after the lack of news is an announcement, I suppose, or a continued lack of news. I suppose that could also happen. It doesn’t seem to me that either of those things is set in stone,” Zelnick said.

This suggests that while a PC release is not confirmed, it is also not entirely off the table.
