Internationally acclaimed artist to open new art gallery in Exmouth

October 21, 20252 Mins Read

An internationally acclaimed artist is set to officially open a new art gallery in Exmouth.

On Saturday, October 25, at 1pm, the Artisan Art Gallery will be officially opened by renowned artist Mackenzie Thorpe.

The gallery was founded as a tribute to the late Tom Hawkes, a Torquay-born opera director turned artist.

Tom found solace in painting later in life, amassing an impressive collection of over 700 paintings.

Inspired by his commitment and passion, Jonathan Ripley established the Artisan Art Gallery to honour Tom’s artistic legacy and provide a stage for local and up-and-coming artists.

The gallery offers support to artists by subsidising costs and reducing commissions, giving talent a chance to thrive.

Jonathan Ripley, founder of the Artisan Art Gallery, said: “Every visit, every kind word, and every sale helps keep this mission alive.

“This gallery exists because of Tom, and we’re thrilled to welcome Mackenzie Thorpe to officially open our doors and celebrate this journey with the community.”

Mackenzie Thorpe, known for his distinctive and emotional artwork, will attend the opening to meet guests and journalists and provide insight into his creative process.

The gallery is located at No1 Chapel Hill, Exmouth, EX8 1NY.

The Artisan Art Gallery continues to carry Tom Hawkes’ legacy by providing a creative space for artists to showcase their work and flourish in the art world.
